No matter which holidays you will celebrate over the next few months, chances are your gatherings will center around great friends and great food. Since your kitchen will be the “ground zero” for many of your social events, and you will want to start planning early to ensure that your guests won’t be disappointed. To help you as you organize your party-hosting strategies, we have come up with list of three essential things you must do to prepare your kitchen, before the busyness of the holidays arrives in full force.
1. Clean! No one likes the idea of eating food that was prepared in a dirty kitchen. So give your stovetop a good cleaning to remove any splattered grease, empty your fridge and freezer and give them both a good wipe down. Dried bits of food that have been splattered all over the inside of your microwave can be easily removed by heating a bowl of water for two minutes, then letting the steam soften any food residue, so that you can then easily wipe it out. As a word of caution, if your oven is equipped with a self-cleaning function, we recommend NOT running the self-clean option just before a major holiday, as it could stress your equipment to the point of mechanical failure. Since no cook wants to be without a fully operational kitchen just before a big celebration, wait until after the holiday.
2. If you don’t cook very often, check all major kitchen appliances to make sure they are in top working order. If you haven’t baked in a while, check your oven temperature with an oven thermometer that can be purchased from your local kitchen supply shop. Check to make sure all four burners on your stove are working– chances are you only use one or two for casual cooking during the rest of the year, but you won’t want to be caught off guard by a persnickety burner that won’t heat just when you really need that fourth burner to finish off your celebratory meal.
3. If you find that one of your major kitchen appliances is in need of appliance repair, contact us EARLY! Don’t wait until the last-minute to schedule a preventative service call. By checking on the operational state of your appliances early, it is more likely that we will be able to get the appliances in your kitchen back up to full operational force, allowing you adequate time to prepare a meal for your guests that they will talk about all year through.
